The two founders of OSSAU WATCH had their hearts set on the idea of merging technological perfection with artistic imagination and creativity. Fuelled by their passion they put their idea to ten artists from the Basque coast, through the Gers region and on to Toulouse. Their challenge was to create unique works of art reflecting their artistic world and small enough to fit on a watch dial. It proved to be a resounding success, giving rise to the OSSAU ARTWATCH limited edition collection, a unique set of watches with dials created by ten artists from across South-West France.
Ten unique watches with a singular identity… And one brand that links them all: OSSAU WATCH.
Philippe Vercellotti from Toulouse, who studied at the Fine Arts Academy in his home town (where he still lives and works), will draw you into “his World.” He works with acrylics on hardboard with a style which, without being hyper-realistic or trompe-l’oeil, always features the incongruous objects that characterise his universe. The titles of his paintings play an essential role, both playful and intriguing. They are mischievous traps which make one laugh, clues that invite observer to interpret what is seen, and which shroud insight with mystery. They are part of the trompe l’œil technique, so characteristic of these singular paintings, that can be both contemplated and read, and that have to be read to be seen.
Contemporary art and its flamboyant colours, with a touch of tradition and an unconventional style that opens the way to infinite possibilities, all painted on the dial of an OSSAU ARTWATCH and juxtaposed with the precision cherished by the brand – a totally unexpected combination!
